History

Air France was formed on 30 August 1933 through the merger of five earlier French airlines, though its lineage traces back to 1909-era pioneers of French commercial aviation. The airline entered the jet age in the 1950s and flew supersonic Concorde service (including Paris-Rio and later New York) starting in 1976, and in 1990 it absorbed domestic carrier Air Inter and long-haul carrier UTA. In 2003-2004 Air France merged with KLM to create the Air France-KLM group, one of the world's largest airline holding companies.

Current Operations

Air France operates its main hub at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, running a large short/medium-haul European network alongside extensive long-haul routes to Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Caribbean, with several hundred destinations served counting both domestic and international points. Its fleet pairs Airbus A320-family narrowbodies for short-haul flying with a long-haul widebody fleet that includes Airbus A350s, Boeing 787s, and (on select routes) the Airbus A380. Air France is a SkyTeam member and part of the Air France-KLM group.
