Airport HistoryEst. 1952

Hannover Airport opened in 1952 in the suburb of Langenhagen, replacing an earlier airfield that had been located within Hanover's city limits. Its compact, efficient 1973 twin-terminal design was influential enough to be adopted as a model for Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport, and the airport has since grown into Germany's ninth-largest, anchoring the Hannover-Braunschweig-Göttingen-Wolfsburg metropolitan region.
