History

Delta traces its origins to Huff Daland Dusters, founded on 2 March 1925 in Macon, Georgia as the world's first aerial crop-dusting operation; it moved into passenger service in 1929 as Delta Air Service and became Delta Air Lines in 1945. The airline filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2005 amid rising fuel costs, emerging in 2007, and in 2008 it acquired Northwest Airlines, with integration completed by 2010, substantially expanding Delta's international network and hub system. Delta is a founding member of the SkyTeam alliance.

Current Operations

Delta operates from a network of hubs led by Atlanta, its largest, along with Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles, Minneapolis-St. Paul, New York (JFK and LaGuardia), Salt Lake City, and Seattle, serving dozens of countries across six continents on a mix of short, medium, and long-haul routes. Its fleet is notably diverse, including large subfleets of the Airbus A220, Boeing 717, Boeing 757/767, and Airbus A330. Delta has no parent holding company, operating directly as Delta Air Lines, Inc.
