History
Swiss International Air Lines was formed in 2002 out of the collapse of Swissair, built around Swissair's regional subsidiary Crossair, and began operations on 31 March 2002. Lufthansa Group acquired a majority stake in 2005 and full ownership by 2007, making SWISS part of the German group alongside Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines. It has since grown into Switzerland's flag carrier, known for premium short- and long-haul service from Zurich.
Current Operations
SWISS operates an extensive European short/medium-haul network from its Zurich hub, complemented by long-haul routes to North America, South America, Africa, and Asia, using a mixed fleet of Airbus A220s, A320-family jets, A330s, A340s, A350s and Boeing 777-300ERs. The airline began taking delivery of the Airbus A350-900 in October 2025 to modernize its long-haul fleet and resumed flights to Tel Aviv in February 2025 after a security-related suspension.
