History
Singapore Airlines traces its lineage to Malayan Airways Limited, founded in 1947, which later became Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA), a joint national carrier for Singapore and Malaysia. When that partnership was dissolved in 1972, Singapore Airlines was established as Singapore's own international carrier, while Malaysia's share of the operation became Malaysia Airlines. SIA built a reputation for premium service and was an early operator of aircraft such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing 787, and it has kept a version of its stylised bird logo since the 1970s.
Current Operations
Singapore Airlines operates a long-haul-focused global network from its Changi Airport hub, complemented by regional flying and its low-cost subsidiary Scoot. Its passenger fleet is an all-widebody mix of Airbus and Boeing aircraft, and the group also runs a dedicated freighter fleet under Singapore Airlines Cargo (SIA Cargo). The airline has faced some aircraft delivery delays in recent years due to industry-wide supply chain disruption, and it continues to rank among the world's leading carriers by service quality and revenue.
