History
China Airlines, Taiwan's flag carrier, was founded on 16 December 1959 and grew from a small operation with two amphibian aircraft into an international carrier through the 1960s and 1970s. It joined SkyTeam in September 2011, becoming the first Taiwanese airline to join a global alliance, and operates alongside subsidiaries Mandarin Airlines and low-cost carrier Tigerair Taiwan within the China Airlines Group.
Current Operations
China Airlines is based at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, with Kaohsiung as a secondary base, operating passenger and cargo flights to destinations across Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania on a fleet mixing Boeing 777-300ERs and 787-9s with Airbus A350-900s, A330-300s and A321neos. As a SkyTeam member it carries roughly 20 million passengers a year and has continued modernizing its fleet with additional 787 and A350 orders in recent years.
