History
easyJet was founded in 1995 by Greek-Cypriot entrepreneur Stelios Haji-Ioannou as a low-cost, point-to-point carrier challenging Europe's legacy airlines, expanding through the 2000s including the 2002 acquisition of Go Fly from British Airways. It grew into one of Europe's largest budget airlines, built on an all-Airbus A320-family fleet and a multi-base operating model rather than the hub-and-spoke approach of legacy carriers.
Current Operations
easyJet operates from around 29 bases across Europe -- with London Gatwick and London Luton (its headquarters location) among the largest -- flying to roughly 180-plus destinations in over 30 countries, using a fleet of more than 300 Airbus A319/A320/A321neo-family aircraft across its group companies. It carried over 69.7 million passengers in a recent full year, making it Europe's second-largest low-cost carrier after Ryanair.
