History
EgyptAir's origins trace to Misr Airwork, established in 1931-32, with the Misr Airlines operation beginning scheduled flights between Cairo, Alexandria and Mersa Matruh in 1933 — making it one of the oldest airlines in the Middle East and Africa. It has operated as Egypt's wholly state-owned flag carrier through various reorganizations and joined Star Alliance in July 2008, becoming the first airline from an Arab country to join a global alliance.
Current Operations
EgyptAir is based at and hubs from Cairo International Airport, serving roughly 84 international and 9 domestic destinations across some 56 countries with a fleet that now includes Airbus A350-900s and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners alongside 737 MAX narrowbodies. The airline carried over 10 million passengers in 2024, reported record profits in the 2024/25 fiscal year, and won several Skytrax awards in 2025, including Best Airline in Africa for Passenger Services.
