History
Vueling was founded in Barcelona and began flying in July 2004 as a low-cost carrier, and in 2009 it merged with rival Spanish low-cost airline Clickair to form a larger combined carrier retaining the Vueling name. International Airlines Group (IAG) took a majority stake in 2009 and full control by 2013, placing Vueling alongside Iberia and British Airways within the group.
Current Operations
Vueling's principal base is Barcelona–El Prat, with a growing secondary hub at Rome Fiumicino and additional operating bases including Paris-Orly, Amsterdam and London Gatwick, serving a short-and-medium-haul, largely leisure-oriented European network with connections into North Africa. It has long flown an all-Airbus A320-family fleet, though in 2025 IAG confirmed plans for Vueling to begin taking Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, diversifying its fleet for the first time.
