History

Uzbekistan Airways was established on 28 January 1992 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, taking over Soviet-era Aeroflot operations in the newly independent country and becoming the national flag carrier headquartered in Tashkent. The state-owned airline modernized its fleet over the following decades, adding Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners and Airbus A320neo-family aircraft alongside older 767-300ERs, and has pursued steady route and fleet expansion in the 2020s.

Current Operations

Uzbekistan Airways operates from its hub at Tashkent International Airport (TAS) with a modern mixed fleet including 787-8s, A320neo/A321neo aircraft, 767-300ERs, and regional turboprops, and it remains wholly state-owned with no membership in a global alliance, though it maintains codeshare agreements with carriers such as Etihad Airways and Asiana Airlines. The airline reported record results in the mid-2020s — around 6 million-plus passengers and roughly $56 million profit in 2024, followed by about 6.6 million passengers and $107 million net profit in 2025 — and in late 2025 ordered 22 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners as part of a plan to roughly double its fleet by 2030, alongside newly resumed or expanded routes to Turkey, China, and India.
