History
Tiger Airways (later branded Tigerair) was incorporated in Singapore on 12 December 2003 as a low-cost carrier and began flying on 15 September 2004, initially from Changi Airport's Budget Terminal before moving to Terminal 2 in 2012. Singapore Airlines built up a stake in the carrier over the 2010s, taking majority ownership (around 56%) in October 2014 and eventually full ownership, delisting Tiger Airways from the Singapore Exchange in 2016 as it consolidated the carrier alongside its other budget arm, Scoot, under the holding company Budget Aviation Holdings.
Current Operations
Tiger Airways Singapore no longer operates as a distinct brand: it formally merged with sister low-cost carrier Scoot on 25 July 2017, with the combined operation flying under the Scoot brand while, for a period, still using Tigerair's air operator's certificate and IATA code. Both former Scoot and Tigerair flying are now part of Singapore Airlines Group's budget arm, Scoot. (Separately, Tigerair Taiwan and Tigerair Australia had already spun off as independently branded operators; Tigerair Taiwan acquired global rights to the Tigerair brand in January 2022, but this is distinct from the original Singapore-registered Tiger Airways covered here.)
