History

Air Macau was established on 13 September 1994 and began commercial operations on 9 November 1995 as the designated flag carrier of the Macau Special Administrative Region, created as part of the deregulation of Macau's aviation market ahead of the 1999 handover from Portugal to China. Ownership consolidated over time around China's state aviation sector: China National Aviation Corporation (linked to Air China) became the majority shareholder, and Air China subsequently acquired further stakes, including a 20% holding purchased from TAP Portugal in 2010.

Current Operations

Air Macau operates an all-Airbus A320-family fleet (A319, A320, and A321 aircraft) from its base at Macau International Airport (MFM), flying to roughly two dozen destinations, with the bulk of its network concentrated on mainland China and further points in East and Southeast Asia including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. It is not a member of a global alliance but holds codeshare partnerships with carriers including Air China, All Nippon Airways, EVA Air, and Shandong Airlines, and it resumed or added several regional routes (Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Philippines, Taichung) between late 2023 and late 2024 as Macau's tourism and gaming sector rebounded post-pandemic.
