History

Ural Airlines traces its history to 1943, when it was founded as Sverdlovsk State Air Enterprises, part of the Soviet Aeroflot system; it became an independent joint-stock company in 1993 following the breakup of Aeroflot after the Soviet Union's dissolution. Based in Yekaterinburg, the airline grew into one of Russia's larger private passenger carriers, building a network centered on Moscow and Yekaterinburg and modernizing toward an all-Airbus A320-family fleet, including A320neo aircraft received starting in August 2019.

Current Operations

Ural Airlines continues to operate an all-Airbus A320-family fleet across a domestic Russian network anchored on hubs at Moscow-Domodedovo and Yekaterinburg (Koltsovo), alongside a reduced set of international routes. Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Ural Airlines has been named on EU and other sanctions lists (reportedly over transport of military personnel) and, like other Russian carriers, faces significant constraints on Western aircraft parts, maintenance, and leasing that have strained its Airbus fleet's serviceability; the extent of these impacts continues to evolve and should be treated as a fluid, ongoing situation as of 2026 rather than settled fact.
