History
Uni Air's lineage goes back to 1988, when regional carrier Makung International Airlines was founded; EVA Air acquired Makung and, in 1996, merged it with two other regional carriers, Great China Airlines and Taiwan Airways, to form Uni Air as EVA Air's dedicated domestic and regional subsidiary. Since then Uni Air has focused on Taiwan's domestic trunk and inter-island routes plus a handful of short-haul regional international destinations, evolving its fleet toward ATR turboprops for shorter, lower-density routes.
Current Operations
Uni Air is a wholly owned subsidiary of Taiwan's EVA Air (part of the Evergreen Group), operating a fleet of ATR 72-600 turboprops (with further ATR 72-600s on order for delivery from 2027) from its main base at Taipei Songshan Airport, with significant operations also at Kaohsiung and Taichung. It holds the largest share of Taiwan's domestic air travel market and also flies a small number of regional international routes, such as to Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City; passengers connect into EVA Air's Infinity MileageLands frequent-flyer program and lounge network, though Uni Air itself is not a member of Star Alliance, which EVA Air belongs to.
