Air Transat

History

Air Transat was founded in December 1986 and began flying on 14 November 1987 with an inaugural flight from Montreal to Acapulco, quickly establishing itself as a Canadian leisure and charter carrier; it added a Toronto base in April 1988 and launched transatlantic service to Paris that same year. Over more than three decades it grew into Canada's largest leisure airline, building an all-Airbus fleet under parent company Transat A.T. Inc.

Current Operations

As of 2026 Air Transat operates roughly 42 Airbus aircraft — A321-200s, A321LRs, and A330-200/300 widebodies — from primary hubs at Montréal-Trudeau and Toronto Pearson, with focus cities at Ottawa and Québec City, serving about 66 destinations across some 35 countries. It carried roughly 5.4 million passengers in fiscal 2025 and won Skytrax's World's Best Leisure Airline award for the seventh time that year; the carrier remains a brand of parent Transat A.T. Inc. and has pursued commercial partnerships including a joint venture with Porter Airlines and codeshares with carriers such as Turkish Airlines and WestJet.
