History

Air Serbia's lineage traces back to Aeroput, founded on 17 June 1927 as the Kingdom of Yugoslavia's first airline; after World War II it became JAT Jugoslovenski Aerotransport in 1948 and later operated as Serbia's flag carrier under the Jat Airways name adopted in 2003. In August 2013, Etihad Airways acquired a 49% stake and took over management, and the carrier was reorganized and rebranded as Air Serbia that October, with an inaugural flight to Abu Dhabi later that month. The Serbian state regained full (100%) ownership of the airline in November 2023 as the Etihad equity partnership ended.

Current Operations

Air Serbia is Serbia's wholly state-owned flag carrier, operating a fleet of roughly 30 aircraft — including Airbus A319/A320 narrowbodies, a single A330 widebody, ATR 72 turboprops and Embraer E195 regional jets — from its hub at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, with focus operations at Niš and Kraljevo. As of late 2025 it served around 81 destinations across some 33 countries, including recently added routes into China, and it retains an Etihad Guest frequent-flyer partnership from its former equity relationship with Etihad. It is not a member of any of the three major global alliances.
