Air One

History

Air One was an Italian carrier founded in 1983 (originally as Aliadriatica, rebranded Air One in November 1995) that grew into Italy's second-largest airline, building a network of roughly three dozen domestic, European, and North American destinations and forming partnerships with carriers such as Lufthansa. Facing near-bankruptcy in 2008, Air One became part of Alitalia on 13 January 2009 during Alitalia's own restructuring under new private ownership, initially continuing to operate in parallel before the two carriers unified booking and branding.

Current Operations

Air One no longer operates: its integration into Alitalia was completed operationally in 2009, and its remaining routes were fully absorbed and its brand retired by 30 October 2014 as Alitalia consolidated its network under the Etihad Airways partnership era. Alitalia itself later ceased operations in October 2021 and was succeeded by ITA Airways (now majority-owned by Lufthansa Group), meaning Air One's original routes and legacy today live on, several corporate steps removed, within the ITA Airways/Lufthansa Group network rather than under any Air One or Alitalia branding.
