History
Jetstar Asia Airways was incorporated in Singapore on 19 November 2004 as a joint venture, majority-owned by Singapore-based investment vehicle Westbrook Investments (51%) with Qantas Group holding a 49% stake, operating under license from the Jetstar brand out of Changi Airport. Over two decades it built a network of intra-Asia routes from Singapore, becoming the Jetstar Group's Southeast Asian arm alongside Jetstar Airways (Australia) and Jetstar Japan. Persistent losses amid intense regional low-cost competition led Qantas Group to announce the airline's closure in June 2025.
Current Operations
Jetstar Asia no longer operates. Qantas Group announced on 11 June 2025 that it would close the Singapore-based carrier, citing a loss of about A$35 million for the 2024/25 financial year driven by rising supplier costs, high airport charges and intensified low-cost competition in the region. Following a roughly seven-week wind-down, Jetstar Asia flew its final services and ceased operations on 31 July 2025. Its 13 Airbus A320-family aircraft were redeployed within Qantas Group to Jetstar's Australia/New Zealand operation and to QantasLink's Western Australia network, and Qantas said it would establish a new international crew base in Singapore. More than 500 Jetstar Asia employees were made redundant, with Qantas offering support to find roles including with Singapore Airlines.
