History
TransAsia Airways traced its roots to Foshing Airlines, founded in 1951 as Taiwan's first private civil airline, which resumed passenger flights in 1988 and rebranded as TransAsia Airways in 1992 when it launched international service. The airline grew into a mid-sized Taiwanese carrier flying Airbus A321/A330 jets and ATR 72 turboprops from Taipei's Songshan and Taoyuan airports. It suffered two fatal accidents in quick succession — Flight 222 near Magong in July 2014 and Flight 235 in Taipei in February 2015 — which badly damaged public confidence and its finances.
Current Operations
TransAsia Airways no longer operates: it suspended all flights on 22 November 2016 and was formally liquidated, with its air operator's certificate revoked in 2018. Its owned Airbus aircraft were sold off (two A321s and two A330s were auctioned to Avianca) and several of its ATR 72-600s were placed into storage, while EVA Air and its regional subsidiary UNI Air took over a number of former TransAsia routes.
