History

Air Sahara was established on 20 September 1991 as Sahara India Airlines and began commercial operations on 3 December 1993 with two Boeing 737-200s, initially serving northern India before rebranding as Air Sahara in October 2000 and expanding into an international carrier from 2004 with routes to Colombo, London, Singapore, the Maldives and Kathmandu. Jet Airways acquired Air Sahara in April 2007 for roughly $340 million and renamed it JetLite, operating it as a low-cost subsidiary that was later merged with fellow Jet Airways subsidiary JetKonnect in 2012.

Current Operations

JetLite (the successor to Air Sahara, carrying the S2 code) no longer operates: it was wound down along with its parent when Jet Airways grounded all flights and ceased operations on 17 April 2019 amid a severe cash crunch. No airline currently flies under the S2 code.
