History

Go First was founded on 4 November 2005 as GoAir by the Wadia Group, one of India's oldest business conglomerates, and built its business as a low-cost, all-Airbus A320-family carrier. It rebranded as Go First in May 2021 ahead of a planned IPO, positioning itself as an ultra-low-cost carrier. From 2019 onward the airline was increasingly crippled by defective Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines on its A320neo fleet, which grounded a large share of its aircraft and starved it of capacity and revenue.

Current Operations

Go First is not operating: it filed for voluntary insolvency resolution before the National Company Law Tribunal on 2 May 2023 and suspended all flights the following day. Despite creditor-approved interim funding attempts and multiple rounds of investor interest during insolvency proceedings, the airline never resumed flying, its remaining leased aircraft were deregistered by India's DGCA by mid-2024, and the NCLT subsequently ordered the company into liquidation.
