Ceased Operations

Financially distressed, Baboo returned its Embraer E190 fleet to lessors in late 2010 and was taken over by Darwin Airline Group (announced 25 November 2010), which discontinued the Baboo brand. Darwin Airline was subsequently rebranded Etihad Regional (2013) and then Adria Airways Switzerland (2017), which itself ceased flying in late 2017 — so no direct successor to the Baboo brand operates today.

History

Baboo (marketed as flybaboo) was founded in August 2003 by Julian Cook and began operations as a Geneva-based regional airline flying Bombardier Dash 8-Q400 turboprops and later Embraer E190 jets to destinations across Europe. Lebanese investment group M1 acquired the airline in 2007. Baboo struggled financially in the wake of the 2008-2009 downturn and heavy competition at Geneva, leading it to shed aircraft and routes through 2010 before being taken over by Darwin Airline Group in November 2010, which absorbed its operations and discontinued the Baboo brand.

Current Operations

Flybaboo (branded Baboo) no longer operates. Facing mounting financial difficulty in 2010, the airline returned its leased Embraer E190 regional jets to lessors by the end of November 2010 and was taken over by the Lugano-based Darwin Airline Group, which announced its acquisition on 25 November 2010; the Baboo brand was discontinued shortly afterward as its Geneva operations were absorbed into Darwin Airline. Darwin Airline itself was later rebranded Etihad Regional (from 2013, after Etihad Airways took a minority stake) and then Adria Airways Switzerland (from 2017) before losing its operating licence and ceasing flying in late 2017; parent Adria Airways of Slovenia subsequently collapsed in September 2019. No airline flies today as a direct continuation of the Baboo brand.
