History

The carrier behind the 9E code traces back to Express Airlines I, founded in February 1985, which was renamed Pinnacle Airlines in May 2002 under a new holding company, Pinnacle Airlines Corp., flying as a regional feeder for Northwest Airlines and later Delta Air Lines under the "Flagship" callsign. Pinnacle Airlines Corp. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2012 amid high fuel costs and contract disputes, and emerged from bankruptcy in May 2013 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines. On 1 August 2013 the airline was renamed Endeavor Air as part of a broader relaunch, though it retained the 9E flight-code designation (its ICAO code changed from FLG to EDV in October 2016).

Current Operations

Operating today as Endeavor Air, the carrier still uses the 9E flight code and flies exclusively as Delta Connection, a regional feeder network for Delta Air Lines. It is headquartered in Minneapolis and operates a fleet of around 141 regional jets serving roughly 145 destinations from hubs at Atlanta, Cincinnati, Detroit, Minneapolis–St. Paul, New York–JFK, New York–LaGuardia, and Raleigh-Durham, employing about 5,000 people as of early 2025. As a wholly owned Delta subsidiary it is not itself a member of a global alliance, but its flying supports Delta's SkyTeam network.
