History
Jin Air was established by Korean Air in 2008, with the name announced in June 2008 and commercial operations beginning on 17 July 2008, launching as South Korea's first low-cost carrier from a major full-service flag carrier. It grew steadily through the 2010s and 2020s as Korean Air's low-cost arm, building an all-Boeing fleet and expanding both domestic and short/medium-haul international service across Northeast and Southeast Asia. In December 2024 Korean Air announced a restructuring plan under which fellow low-cost carriers Air Busan and Air Seoul would be merged into, and rebranded as, Jin Air, following Korean Air's acquisition of Asiana Airlines.
Current Operations
Jin Air operates an all-Boeing fleet of 737-800, 737-900, 777-200ER and 787-8 aircraft from hubs at Incheon, Gimpo, and Jeju, serving several domestic and more than two dozen international destinations across the Asia-Pacific region. It remains a wholly owned subsidiary of Korean Air and is not itself a member of a global alliance, though it holds codeshare and interline ties with Korean Air, Delta Air Lines, and the Jetstar Group; a domestic codeshare with Air Busan began in January 2026 as part of the low-cost carrier integration Korean Air announced in December 2024.
