History

Adria Airways traced its roots to 1961 as the charter carrier Adria Aviopromet, which survived an early-1960s crisis via a 1968 merger with Serbian firm InterExport to form Inex-Adria Aviopromet, later renamed Adria Airways and established as Slovenia's flag carrier after the country's 1991 independence. It joined Star Alliance on 18 November 2004 and expanded its European network, but chronic losses, repeated ownership changes and state interventions through the 2010s left it unable to sustain operations.

Current Operations

Adria Airways no longer exists as an operating airline. It ceased all flights and filed for bankruptcy on 30 September 2019 after aircraft lessors began repossessing its fleet over unpaid lease payments, and its assets were auctioned off in January 2020. Slovenia has had no dedicated national flag carrier since Adria's collapse, and the "JP" code and Adria brand are not in commercial use.
