History
SCAT Airlines (officially PLL SCAT Air Company) was established and began operations in 1997 in Shymkent, southern Kazakhstan, growing from a small regional operator into one of the country's largest privately owned carriers. It built its network around domestic Kazakh routes supplemented by scheduled international service to neighboring Central Asian and CIS destinations, gradually renewing an aging Soviet-era fleet with Western equipment, including Boeing 737 Classic and Next Generation jets and Bombardier CRJ200 regional jets. The airline became a full member of IATA in 2018 and, after a temporary grounding, resumed Boeing 737 MAX operations in February 2021 as one of the type's early Central Asian operators.
Current Operations
SCAT Airlines remains an independent, privately owned Kazakh carrier based at Shymkent, operating a mixed fleet of roughly three dozen aircraft, including Boeing 737-800s and 737 MAX 8s alongside Bombardier CRJ200s, and serving around 46 destinations while carrying approximately 3 million passengers a year. It also operates focus-city bases at Almaty and Astana and holds codeshare and interline agreements with carriers such as Azerbaijan Airlines, though it is not a member of any global alliance.
