History
Flydubai was established by the Government of Dubai in March 2008 as a low-cost carrier and commenced commercial operations on 1 June 2009. It expanded rapidly on an all-Boeing 737 fleet, building a network across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe, and in November 2020 launched the first commercial route between Dubai and Tel Aviv following the Abraham Accords. The airline suffered its first fatal accident in March 2016, when Flight 981 crashed on approach to Rostov-on-Don, Russia.
Current Operations
Flydubai operates an all-Boeing 737 fleet (737-800/MAX 8) to roughly 130 destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe from its base at Dubai International Airport's Terminal 2/3, with the airline reporting some of its strongest-ever financial results in 2024. It has orders for Boeing 787 Dreamliners (deliveries beginning 2026) and Airbus A321neo aircraft to diversify its widebody and narrowbody fleet in coming years. Flydubai is not part of a global alliance but maintains an extensive codeshare and network partnership with government-owned sister carrier Emirates, coordinating schedules and connections through Dubai.
