History
TAAG Angola Airlines traces its origins to DTA (Divisao dos Transportes Aereos), established in September 1938 under Portuguese colonial administration and beginning operations on 17 July 1940. Following Angolan independence in 1975 it was reorganized as TAAG Angola Airlines, the country's state-owned flag carrier. The airline has since built up long-haul services to Europe (notably Portugal) and the Americas (Brazil, Cuba) alongside regional African and domestic Angolan routes, and it began a widebody fleet modernization in the 2020s, receiving its first Airbus A220 in September 2024 and its first Boeing 787-10 in November 2025.
Current Operations
TAAG Angola Airlines, 100% owned by the Government of Angola, operates a fleet of roughly 31 aircraft as of late 2025, including Boeing 777-200ER/300ER and 787-9/787-10 widebodies for long-haul routes, Airbus A220-300s and Boeing 737-700s for regional and domestic service, De Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprops, plus dedicated 737 freighters. It flies from its hub at Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto International Airport in Luanda to destinations across Africa and long-haul points in Europe and the Americas. It is a member of IATA and the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) but not of any of the three major global alliances, and has stated ambitions to reach sustained profitability by 2028.
