History

Myanmar Airways International began flying in August 1993 as a joint venture between state carrier Myanma Airways and Singapore-based Highsonic Enterprises, with backing from Royal Brunei Airlines, positioning it as Myanmar's dedicated international-flag carrier alongside the domestic operator. It built up a network of regional codeshare and interline partnerships over the following decades. In 2019 the airline was acquired by the Myanmar-based 24 Hour Group of Companies, which remains its owner.

Current Operations

Myanmar Airways International operates a fleet of around a dozen aircraft, including Airbus A319/A320 narrowbodies, Embraer E190s and an ATR 72-600, serving domestic routes from Yangon and Mandalay plus international destinations across Southeast Asia, South Asia, East Asia and the Middle East. It maintains codeshare and interline agreements with dozens of international carriers, including Qatar Airways, Thai Airways, Malaysia Airlines and Korean Air, and continues to operate as a privately owned carrier under the 24 Hour Group.
