CUTE has been the foundational standard for airport terminal infrastructure since the 1980s. It allows the airport operator to allocate the same physical counters, terminals and printers to different airlines.

How It Works

In a CUTE environment, each check-in counter is connected to a central CUTE server. Before an operation begins, the counter is assigned to the relevant airline's DCS application. Once the flight is complete, the same counter can be reassigned to another carrier. Even small charter airlines with specific check-in requirements can benefit from the same infrastructure.

Comparison with CUSS

CUTE covers agent-operated workstations; CUSS covers self-service kiosks used directly by passengers. CUPPS consolidates both under a single framework.

CUTE 3.x — Current Standard

The majority of the aviation industry still operates on CUTE 3.x. This protocol-based architecture has proven stable and widely supported. However, the difficulty of integrating with modern web APIs has accelerated the migration momentum toward CUPPS.

Airport Economics

CUTE eliminates the need for each airline to deploy its own dedicated counter fleet. For large hub terminals hosting many carriers, this represents a significant capital saving. It also provides scheduling flexibility: counter allocations can be adjusted dynamically for peak seasons and slot changes.
