History
The carrier was incorporated as Hong Kong Express Airways Limited on 10 March 2004, initially operating as a conventional full-service regional airline before restructuring into a low-cost carrier and rebranding as "HK Express" on 26 June 2013. Cathay Pacific Airways acquired full ownership of the airline on 19 July 2019 for HK$4.93 billion, bringing Hong Kong's dominant flag carrier and its low-cost rival under one corporate roof while keeping HK Express operating as a distinct, standalone brand.
Current Operations
HK Express operates an all-Airbus A320-family fleet (A320neo and A321neo) from its hub at Hong Kong International Airport, serving around 27 destinations across Asia including mainland China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia. It continues to run as Cathay Pacific's wholly owned, standalone low-cost subsidiary, maintaining codeshare links with Cathay Pacific; it withdrew from the U-FLY Alliance of Asian low-cost carriers following its acquisition by Cathay and is not part of any global full-service alliance.
