History
Jazeera Airways was founded in 2004 as Kuwait's first privately owned airline, launching as a low-cost carrier to challenge the state-owned Kuwait Airways monopoly. It grew steadily over two decades into a profitable regional low-cost operator, opening its own private terminal at Kuwait International Airport in 2018 and expanding across the Gulf, Levant, South Asia, and increasingly Europe and Africa. In early 2026 the airline's operations were significantly disrupted when Iranian missile and drone strikes damaged Kuwait International Airport as part of a wider regional conflict, forcing weeks of relocated flying via Saudi airports before Kuwaiti airspace and the airport progressively reopened in April 2026.
Current Operations
Jazeera Airways operates a fleet of roughly 24 Airbus A320-family aircraft (a mix of A320ceo and A320neo, with A320neo and A321neo aircraft on order) from its hub at Kuwait International Airport, serving over 60 destinations across the Middle East, South and Central Asia, Europe, and Africa as a low-cost carrier. Operations were severely disrupted in early 2026 when Iranian strikes on regional targets during "Operation True Promise IV" hit Kuwait International Airport starting 28 February 2026, forcing a full suspension of Kuwaiti airspace; Jazeera temporarily relocated flying to Saudi Arabian airports (including Qaisumah-Hafar Al-Batin) before Kuwait Airport reopened in phases from late April 2026, with Jazeera and Kuwait Airways together reporting losses exceeding $450 million from the disruption. It is not a member of a global alliance but holds a codeshare/interline distribution partnership with Hahn Air.
