ADL — Additions and Deletions List

The ADL is the complementary update message to the PNL. Every change to the passenger list after the initial PNL has been sent is communicated via an ADL message.

PNL–ADL Workflow

The typical workflow: (1) PNL is sent to the ground handler hours before departure. (2) As passengers check in or reservations change, the DCS generates ADL messages. (3) The ground handler receives each ADL and updates the working list. (4) This cycle continues until gate closure.

Types of ADL Change

Operational Criticality

The ground handler monitors ADL messages in real time during departure preparation. If a passenger with a wheelchair requirement checks in at the last minute, the ADL carries this information, triggering an update to the assistance plan. Load and balance calculations are also updated to reflect ADL changes.

Relationship with BRS

When the gate closes, the BRS (Baggage Reconciliation System) activates. The combined result of the PNL plus all ADL updates is compared against the gate boarding count. Any discrepancy — where the number of boarded passengers does not match the number with checked baggage — triggers the baggage security procedure.
