History
Skynet Airlines was a small Irish carrier founded in 2001 and based at Shannon Airport, launched with support from Aeroflot-affiliated interests to operate a Shannon–Amsterdam–Moscow route using Boeing 737s, effectively renting routes and slots from Aeroflot under a code-sharing arrangement. By 2004 its fleet consisted of two Boeing 737-400s, but the airline was never profitable, reporting pre-tax losses of roughly €4.5 million for 2002 alone.
Current Operations
Skynet Airlines does not exist today. In May 2004 its aircraft-leasing company impounded both of its Boeing 737s at Shannon Airport in a dispute over unpaid rent, grounding the airline; attempts to restart flights in partnership with Russia's Pulkovo Aviation Enterprise for 2005 fell through, and the airline never resumed operations. It has no connection to the Channel Islands regional carrier Blue Islands beyond an unrelated later reuse of similar branding concepts in aviation more broadly.
