History
The airline now using IATA code QH began in April 2001 as Altyn Air, a private Kyrgyz carrier whose name is preserved in its "ALTYN AVIA" radio callsign. It was rebranded as Kyrgyzstan Air Company on 28 July 2006 and later re-registered as the open joint-stock company "Air Kyrgyzstan" on 5 December 2013, becoming effectively state-controlled through the Kyrgyz government's Fund for State Property Management. Operating primarily a single Boeing 737-500 in its later years, it served as one of Kyrgyzstan's main scheduled and charter carriers out of Bishkek, though like other Kyrgyz airlines it was barred from European Union airspace over safety concerns.
Current Operations
Air Kyrgyzstan is no longer an operating airline. It suspended all flights on 26 October 2017 after its sole aircraft was damaged in a bird-strike accident, and its Air Operator's Certificate was formally revoked by Kyrgyz authorities on 29 September 2018, with no flights recorded since 2019. The IATA code QH has since been reassigned and is now used by Vietnam's Bamboo Airways, unrelated to the original Kyrgyz carrier.
