Citilink Indonesia

History

Citilink began operations on 16 July 2001 as a regional low-cost subsidiary of flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, initially flying ex-Garuda Fokker F28s out of Surabaya before a fuel-cost-driven suspension in 2008. It relaunched in January 2009 with modernized narrowbody aircraft and grew rapidly alongside Indonesia's expanding low-cost travel market, becoming a fully separate operating subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia on 30 July 2012 with its own AOC, callsign and branding. Over the following decade it built out an Airbus-led, later mixed Airbus/Boeing narrowbody fleet and became one of the largest low-cost carriers in Southeast Asia by passenger volume.

Current Operations

Citilink operates an extensive domestic Indonesian network plus regional international routes to Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia from dual hubs at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta and Surabaya's Juanda airports. As of mid-2026 its fleet, expanding with backing from Indonesia's state investment holding company Danantara, comprises more than 40 Airbus A320-family and Boeing 737 narrowbodies. It remains a wholly owned subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia and maintains codeshare links with Garuda Indonesia, Scoot and Hahnair rather than membership in a global alliance.
