History
Orient Thai Airlines traced its roots to Orient Express Air, founded in August 1995, and began commercial operations in January 1997 out of Bangkok's Don Mueang International Airport. It grew into a notable charter and scheduled operator across Asia, becoming one of only a few airlines worldwide flying an all-Boeing 747 widebody fleet on domestic and regional routes, and it also controlled the low-cost subsidiary One-Two-GO Airlines. The airline's reputation suffered after One-Two-GO Flight 269 crashed in Phuket in 2007, and it faced a 56-day operating suspension in 2008 following that accident and related regulatory violations. Mounting debts, unpaid maintenance bills, and aircraft seizures led to a temporary shutdown in September 2017, a brief resumption, and a final suspension of all flights by October 2018.
Current Operations
Orient Thai Airlines no longer operates: it halted all flights in 2018 amid insolvency and was formally declared bankrupt by Thai authorities in a Royal Gazette announcement on 5 January 2021, with the Legal Execution Department authorized to seize its remaining assets to repay creditors. The airline holds no aircraft, routes, or operating certificate today, and its former Don Mueang base and slots have been absorbed by other Thai carriers.
