History
Cambodia Angkor Air was established in July 2009 as a joint venture between the Cambodian government (51%) and Vietnam Airlines (49%), launching commercial service on 28 July 2009 with ATR 72 turboprops to fill the gap left by the 2001 collapse of the earlier flag carrier Royal Air Cambodge. It expanded into an Airbus-operated network across Cambodia, Southeast Asia and China, positioning itself as the national carrier serving Angkor Wat-bound tourist traffic through Siem Reap as well as the capital, Phnom Penh. Ownership shifted over the following decade: Vietnam Airlines sold most of its stake in 2020, and Xing Gang Investment Group and 7TRIP International each acquired significant shareholdings, while Vietnam Airlines retained a smaller stake. On 1 January 2025 the airline formally rebranded as Air Cambodia, unveiling a new livery inspired by the giant ibis, Cambodia's national bird, while continuing to operate under the same corporate entity and the K6 IATA code.
Current Operations
Operating as Air Cambodia since January 2025, the carrier flies an Airbus and ATR fleet on domestic and regional international routes, with fleet-modernization plans that include Boeing 737 MAX and COMAC C909 orders. Its ownership is now split between the Royal Cambodian Government (30%), Xing Gang Investment Group (28%), 7TRIP International (28%) and Vietnam Airlines (14%), and it maintains codeshare agreements with Vietnam Airlines and, since April 2026, Etihad Airways. Following the September 2025 opening of Phnom Penh's new Techo International Airport, the airline shifted its main hub there from the old Phnom Penh International Airport, alongside a secondary hub at Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport; it is not a member of any global alliance.
