History

Ibex Airlines began life as Fair Inc., founded on 29 January 1999, and launched commercial service in August 2000 on a Sendai-Osaka (Itami) route using regional jets acquired second-hand from Austria's Lauda Air. It expanded steadily through the early 2000s, adding routes to Narita, Sapporo, Hiroshima, Matsuyama and Fukuoka, and was renamed Ibex Airlines in October 2004 as it began transitioning to new Bombardier CRJ regional jets delivered through the 2000s and 2010s. The carrier passed one million cumulative passengers in December 2005 and has continued operating as a Sendai-based domestic regional airline ever since.

Current Operations

Ibex Airlines operates a fleet of Bombardier CRJ regional jets on roughly 30 domestic Japanese routes from its base at Sendai Airport, linking regional cities such as Narita, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo. It maintains a cooperation and codeshare agreement with All Nippon Airways (ANA), which provides support in areas such as flight operations, crew resourcing and maintenance, though it operates under its own air operator's certificate rather than as a fully owned ANA subsidiary. It is not a member of any global airline alliance.
