Airline Identity
History
TAME was founded on 17 December 1962 by the Ecuadorian Air Force as a military-linked airline intended to generate revenue, connect remote parts of the country, and train pilots, beginning international service in 1966. In 2011 the airline was restructured into a state-owned civilian company, ending its administration by the Air Force, and it operated for decades as Ecuador's flag carrier connecting Quito with domestic and regional international destinations.
Current Operations
TAME no longer exists as an operating airline. After years of financial struggles that were compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on air travel, the Ecuadorian government ordered the airline liquidated, and it ceased all operations around 19-20 May 2020, with its remaining aircraft subsequently auctioned off.
