History
LAN Airlines acquired the small Argentine carrier Aero 2000 S.A. in March 2005 and relaunched it as LAN Argentina, which began scheduled service on 8 June 2005 with a domestic route between Buenos Aires and Mendoza before expanding internationally, including a Miami route from August 2006. It joined the oneworld alliance on 1 April 2007 and grew into Argentina's second-largest airline, accounting for roughly 16% of domestic flights by 2019; when LAN and Brazil's TAM merged in 2012 to form the LATAM Airlines Group, the Argentine unit was rebranded LATAM Airlines Argentina.
Current Operations
LATAM Airlines Argentina no longer operates. Amid LATAM Group's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in the United States, the Argentine subsidiary left the oneworld alliance on 1 May 2020 and then permanently ceased all flights on 17 June 2020, returning its leased aircraft and laying off its employees. Argentina continues to be served by LATAM Group flights operated by the parent's other national units (chiefly LATAM Airlines Chile and Brazil) rather than by a distinct Argentine operating certificate.
