Take the direct train from the station under the terminal to Zürich Hauptbahnhof (about 10 minutes) and walk the Altstadt, Bahnhofstrasse and Lake Zürich promenade.

Inside the airport

Airside options include the SWISS Business Lounge (showers, quiet zones) and pay-per-visit Aspire/Marhaba lounges; the Transit Hotel rest area near Gates B/D (non-Schengen side) has reclining chairs and paid shower access for a few hours of downtime without a full room booking.

Inside security, the airport's own Transit Hotel (Gates B/D) rents private rooms by the hour; landside, the Radisson Blu Zurich Airport and other hotels sit inside The Circle complex, a short walk from the terminal.

Switzerland is in the Schengen Area (not the EU). Leaving the airport requires either visa-free eligibility or a valid Schengen short-stay visa; a small list of nationalities without full visa-free access still need a specific Schengen 'airport transit visa' just to change planes airside. Flag: the EU's ETIAS pre-travel authorization for visa-exempt travelers has been repeatedly delayed (still not in force as of mid-2026) — verify its status before assuming it applies.
