Transport Options at YUL
Montreal / Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport is connected to Montréal and the wider Canada transport network by multiple ground transport options.
The REM light-rail extension to YUL is still under construction and not yet operational as of mid-2026, with the airport station expected around 2027. Until it opens there is no rail link to the airport, so the STM 747 bus is the primary transit connection to downtown.
STM's 747 bus runs 24/7 between the airport and downtown (serving Lionel-Groulx and Berri-UQAM métro stations) roughly every 10-20 minutes. Fare is $11.25 and doubles as a 24-hour transit pass; buy it at airport fare machines or the STM counter, via the Chrono app, or with exact cash onboard.
Fixed official taxi fares apply for airport trips to downtown: roughly $49.45 CAD from 5am-11pm and $56.70 CAD overnight (11pm-5am). Taxis queue curbside at arrivals.
Uber and Lyft operate and pick up from a designated rideshare zone at the arrivals level; fares are typically comparable to, or somewhat below, the fixed taxi rate outside of surge periods.
All major rental agencies are located in or adjacent to the international arrivals area of the terminal, within walking distance — no separate shuttle needed.
Don't plan around the REM yet — despite some maps or older guides implying it's running, the airport connection remains under construction with a target around 2027. Budget for the 747 bus or a fixed-fare taxi for now, and note the 747's downtown terminus has shifted slightly (near Berri-UQAM) due to construction work in the area.
