Transport Options at VCE
Venice Marco Polo Airport is connected to Venezia (VE) and the wider Italy transport network by multiple ground transport options.
ATVO express buses and ACTV local buses run from the airport to Piazzale Roma (Venice) and to Venezia Mestre train station, with the ATVO express taking around 20 minutes; tickets are sold online, at counters, or onboard.
Land taxis operate at a fixed rate (roughly €40) to Piazzale Roma, the only point cars can reach in central Venice, in about 20 minutes — from there you continue on foot or by vaporetto since the historic center has no roads.
Uber and similar apps have essentially no useful presence for reaching the historic center, since no roads lead into it; most travelers use licensed taxis, buses, or water transport (Alilaguna) instead.
All major rental desks are in the arrivals hall, but a rental car is only useful for Mestre/mainland trips or onward driving — it cannot enter central Venice.
For the historic island center, the Alilaguna water bus, despite being slower (roughly 45-90 minutes depending on the line), often beats the land bus/taxi option since it drops passengers near San Marco, Rialto, and other central stops, avoiding the extra vaporetto transfer needed after arriving at Piazzale Roma.
