Airport HistoryEst. 1995
Shijiazhuang's airport opened in 1995 to serve the Hebei provincial capital and was upgraded to international status and renamed Zhengding International in 2008. Notable for being one of the few Chinese airports able to accommodate the giant Antonov An-225, it also played an unusual pandemic-era role as a designated diversion point for international flights bound for Beijing, and today serves as a hub for regional carriers Hebei Airlines and China United Airlines.
The airport opened in 1995, serving Shijiazhuang and the surrounding Hebei province region from its location in Xinchengpu, Zhengding.
The airport was renamed Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport in July 2008, reflecting an upgrade to international status.
Zhengding Airport railway station opened December 26, 2012, on the Beijing–Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong High-Speed Railway, giving the airport a direct on-site high-speed rail link to major Chinese cities.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, international flights bound for Beijing were redirected to land at Shijiazhuang and other nearby airports first, as part of China's efforts to minimize imported cases before onward connection to the capital.
The airport handled approximately 9.86 million passengers, over 61,000 tonnes of cargo, and more than 76,000 aircraft movements in 2023.
