Best use of a long layover

The Blue Line light rail runs directly from the airport to Mall of America in about 10 minutes, and on into downtown Minneapolis in roughly 25-30 minutes — both are realistic within a 5-6 hour window.

Inside the airport

MSP has three Delta Sky Clubs (including a newer nature-themed one) plus an Escape Lounge open to a wide range of cardholders and day-pass buyers; there's no dedicated sleep-pod facility, so a nap means a lounge recliner or the connected hotel.

The InterContinental Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport hotel connects to Terminal 1 via its own TSA checkpoint and skybridge to Gate C25 (carry-on only, 5-10am), with a 24-hour shuttle to both terminals at other times.

Same as other US airports: MSP has no airside transit zone, so connecting international passengers clear CBP immigration and need a valid US visa or ESTA to do so, whether or not they plan to leave the airport.
Transit visa requirements vary by nationality and change frequently. Always verify with the official embassy or consulate of United States before travel.
