Transport Options at HGH
Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport is connected to Hangzhou and the wider China transport network by multiple ground transport options.
Hangzhou Metro Line 1 connects Xiaoshan Airport directly to central Hangzhou (Hangzhou East Railway Station in about 40 minutes, further on to Wulin Square/city center); trains run roughly every 10 minutes through the day.
Airport shuttle buses run from the terminal to multiple points across Hangzhou and beyond (including Shanghai and other Zhejiang cities); tickets are sold at counters in the arrivals hall.
Metered taxis queue outside arrivals; fare to central Hangzhou is roughly ¥100–150 and takes 45–60 minutes depending on traffic.
Didi (China's dominant ride-hailing app) operates at the airport but generally requires a Chinese phone number and payment method to book, which makes it impractical for most short-term foreign visitors.
Rental desks exist in the terminal, but self-drive in China requires a Chinese driving permit for most foreign visitors — not a practical option for typical international travelers; metro or taxi is the standard choice.
Metro Line 1 is the easiest way into the city and avoids Hangzhou's often-heavy road traffic — buy a single-journey ticket from the machines (cash or UnionPay/Alipay) rather than trying to use a foreign card.
