Transport Options at HAN
Noi Bai International Airport is connected to Hanoi (Soc Son) and the wider Vietnam transport network by multiple ground transport options.
The Airport Express Bus 86 runs between Noi Bai and Hanoi Railway Station/Old Quarter roughly every 45 minutes, taking about 50-55 minutes, for a flat fare around 45,000 VND regardless of distance. Cheaper local public buses (e.g., routes 07, 17, 68, 90) also connect to the city for a few thousand VND but are slower and have limited luggage space.
Metered taxis from reputable companies (Mai Linh, Taxi Group) to the Old Quarter/city center typically cost roughly 300,000-400,000 VND and take 25-45 minutes depending on traffic and which bridge is used (Nhat Tan Bridge is usually faster than the older Thang Long route).
Grab is widely available and commonly the preferred option; book through the app and use the designated pickup area rather than accepting offers from touts in the arrivals hall.
Self-drive rental is uncommon for foreign travelers; hiring a car with a driver is the typical alternative, and a few rental counters/agencies serve the airport.
Unofficial taxi touts approaching arriving passengers with pre-quoted 'fixed fares' are a common scam at Noi Bai — head to the official taxi rank or use Grab/a licensed meter instead, and confirm the route via Nhat Tan Bridge if time matters.
