Transport Options at GRU
São Paulo/Guarulhos–Governor André Franco Montoro International Airport is connected to São Paulo and the wider Brazil transport network by multiple ground transport options.
A direct CPTM commuter rail connection now serves the airport — the Airport-Guarulhos station on Line 13-Jade, with a free shuttle linking Terminal 1 (where the station sits), Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Most journeys into central São Paulo require a transfer to Line 12-Safira at Engenheiro Goulart, reaching Tatuapé, Brás and Luz. Trains run roughly 04:00-midnight (until around 01:00 on Saturdays). This is a relatively new direct connection — some older guides won't mention it.
The Airport Bus Service runs local lines to Congonhas Airport, Barra Funda and Tietê bus terminals, and hotels along Avenida Paulista, boarding from Terminal 2's east arrivals level. EMTU buses connect to Tatuapé subway and Arujá from Terminal 2's west landing side. Intercity coach operators (Lirabus, Pássaro Marron, Viação Cometa) also depart from GRU for destinations beyond São Paulo.
Official airport taxis and standard city taxis are available at each terminal.
Uber and 99 both operate at GRU with designated pickup areas.
Major rental companies operate desks in the terminals, useful for trips outside the metro area.
If your hotel is near a CPTM Line 12 station, the train (via the Terminal 1 free shuttle connection) is now a genuinely viable low-cost alternative to a 45-90 minute taxi/rideshare ride into central São Paulo, depending on traffic.
