Transport Options at EDI
Edinburgh Airport is connected to Edinburgh and the wider United Kingdom transport network by multiple ground transport options.
Edinburgh Trams run from the airport to the city centre in about 30 minutes, terminating at York Place via Edinburgh Gateway, Haymarket, Princes Street and St Andrew Square. Single fare is roughly £7.90 (open return ~£9.50), with trams every 7 minutes at peak and 10 minutes off-peak.
Airlink 100 (Lothian Buses) runs 24/7 to Waverley Bridge in about 30 minutes for roughly £6-7.50 single, every 10 minutes by day. Cheaper local routes (17/18/25/35 area) cost around £2.40 but take 35-50 minutes with more stops and limited luggage space.
Black cabs from the rank outside arrivals cost roughly £25-£40 to the city centre (20-30 minutes), metered with no fixed airport surcharge, though fares climb in heavy traffic or overnight.
Uber and Bolt operate and typically undercut taxis (roughly £15-£35 to the centre); pickup is from a signposted rideshare zone at the terminal rather than directly curbside.
All major agencies (Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt, Thrifty) are based at a dedicated Car Rental Centre reached via a short covered walkway from the terminal.
The tram is the only fixed-price, traffic-proof option into town — buy tickets from the platform machine rather than onboard. Road transport (bus, taxi, rideshare) can slow dramatically during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (August) and around major rugby/football match days, so build in extra time.
